While the rules of the game vary greatly, most versions follow the same basic principles. Players take turns drawing tiles, discarding tiles, and claiming melds. Depending on the number of players, the game can be very fast paced. If you’ve ever played a game of mahjong before, you’ll know that it is easy to get hooked and lose track of time. If you’re new to the game, here are some tips to help you get started.

There are two main variations of mahjong. The European Classical version is based on the classical Chinese version, which involves a blind selection of “wind” tiles. The American and Hong Kong versions feature joker tiles and are the most popular versions of the game. These versions are both fun and challenging to play. Some people even play the same game several times! In order to play this version of the game, you must have at least four players.

The traditional mahjong game is played with a set of 36 tiles with circle patterns. In a typical game, there are three layers of squares and nine squares. The goal is to match the number of circles in each pair. In some versions, you can shuffle the tiles or peel off the layers of tiles to find a playable pair. If you have a matching set of three or more tiles, you’ve won! In other versions, the tiles are not shuffled, but remain unmatched. You can’t run out of moves, which can lead to loss.
